Strike Magazine is a lifestyle publication founded at FSU that focuses on culture, fashion, and art. Strike aims to cultivate creative communities on college campuses allowing students to gain well-rounded professional experience in all facets of content production. This piece’s primary goal was the creation of four spreads, including a title spread. The third issue called for a much cleaner and simpler design aesthetic, allowing for the writing and photography to shine. This meant the job of the graphic designer this issue was to create visually interesting, yet simple layout. This section specifically, The Void, was the only section to be fully black and white. As such, making optimal use of positive and negative space – balancing light and dark – was the most crucial focus during the creation of these spreads. Using a single model for this shoot creates a very personal feeling, but the lack of eye contact tones that down just enough to create a sense of longing.
